Man pleads guilty in Pender County murder

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- 41-year-old Tony Allen Harris plead guilty today in the 2012 murder of Debra Gail Long.

According to District Attorney, Ben David, Harris appeared in Pender County Superior Court and plead guilty to second-degree murder. The case was scheduled to go to trial July 28.

Long and Harris were previously romantically involved. She was found in her home on Chinaberry Lane in Rocky Point on June 6, 2012. Harris stabbed Long fourteen times in the face, neck and chest.

"Cases of domestic violence receive my office's full attention and this case was no different," said Ben David. "We are happy to bring this result to Ms. Long's family and look forward to giving them the opportunity to speak on their mother's behalf at the time of sentencing."

Sentencing will take place July 29. Harris remains in custody.
