WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- State regulators plan to take legal action against the owner of a Wilmington cemetery who has struggled to keep the grounds maintained.
At their quarterly public meeting this week the NC Cemetery Commission discussed Calvary Memorial Cemetery, and questioned owner Jack Krupicka about the conditions of the facility. Family members have complained for years about the overgrown grass, trash and other issues at the cemetery. Earlier this year the City of Wilmington began fining Krupicka for code violations.
After some discussion, the Cemetery Commission unanimously decided to seek an injunction and have a receiver appointed for the cemetery. The commission will also notify the New Hanover County District Attorney about what it says are Krupicka's criminal actions.
A commission spokeswoman says the action against Krupicka could take some time. In the meantime the commission is looking for someone to volunteer to become the receiver of Calvary, should a judge rule to appoint one.
