WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is dead after police say he jumped from the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge early this morning.

Dispatchers say calls came in from witnesses who reported someone trying to jump from the bridge just before 7 a.m. That’s where police say the man in his 40s parked his car before jumping from the bridge.

Police found the man in a grassy patch below the bridge, according to dispatchers. Police say EMS responded in hopes to resuscitate the man, but a WPD spokeswoman says he was pronounced dead.

Wilmington Police will release the name of the man once next of kin is notified.

Is there anymore information on who this guy was? Haven’t been able to get a name…Maybe it was another local official that gets to keep his name private.
