RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Where else but the town of Horse Shoe would a person get lucky twice in the N.C. Education Lottery?
Self-employed painter Ivan Gilbert is a two-time winner. He won $1 million this week in the $120 Million Cash scratch off game. In May 2012, Gilbert won $100,000 in the Super Lucky 7s game.
Gilbert said the first win helped stabilize his family’s life. He says the latest win will allow him and his wife to buy a home.
Gilbert purchased his ticket at a store in Hendersonville on Sunday. He took the cash payment option and received a check for $415,206 after state and federal taxes were withheld, making him the fourth player to win a $1 million prize in the game.
Horse Shoe is 23 miles south of Asheville.
