CHAPEL HILL, NC (AP) — A professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has died after an attack near campus, and two men face multiple charges in the incident.

According to police, 59-year-old Feng Liu was found lying unresponsive Wednesday. Authorities say Liu suffered serious head wounds and was taken to UNC Hospitals. He died Thursday morning.

Chapel Hill police spokesman Lt. Josh Mecimore said information from a passerby helped lead police to the suspects.

Authorities say 23-year-old Derick Davis II of Durham and 27-year-old Troy Arrington Jr. of Chapel Hill face first-degree murder and other charges. The two men appeared in court Thursday, and it’s not known if either man has an attorney.

Liu was a research professor in UNC’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy who was studying gene and drug delivery.

The firing squad is far too good for these thugs. If and when they are executed (if guilty) I suppose the powers that be will haggle over what type drugs they are to receive to make sure they do not suffer. Like, who cares? I assume the professor suffered.

Such a senseless and selfish act. So sad to hear that a person who spent a lot of their time researching genes in an attempt make people’s life better was savagely beaten for $. Another valid reason to bring back the firing squad! My sympathies go out to the family.
