Post 10 bows out of state tournament; Wilmington Sharks lose 6th straight

LEXINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Post 10 lost on the first day of the American Legion State Tournament. Post 10 went onto win three games in a row in the consolation bracket, but Shelby Post 82 defeated Wilmington Post 10 on Monday night 4-2 to end Wilmington's attempt to win three state titles in a row.

Josh Rogers got the start on the mound for Post 10. Rogers gave up four early runs. Tyree Johnson and Brandon Boone came in out of the bullpen. Shane Shepard delivered Post 10's biggest hit of the night in the 5th inning. It was a two-out, two-run double. Post 10 only had 5 hits on the night. Post 10 ends the season with a 27-8 record.

Shelby will now face Gaston County on Tuesday. If Gaston County wins they'll claim the state championship. If Shelby wins both teams will play again in Lexington to determine a winner-take-all state champion. Gaston has yet to lose in the double elimination tournament. Shelby has one loss.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WWAY) -- The Wilmington Sharks scattered 12 hits, but Fayetteville ended up outscoring Wilmington 10-7 on Monday night. It's the sixth loss in a row for the Sharks. Steven Linkous stole two bases. The Sharks will be at home on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday as the regular season comes to a close.
