WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Wilmington City Council voted to move forward with building a new fire station on Cinema Drive.

They awarded the Monteith Construction Corporation with a $3.4 million contract Tuesday night.

The station would replace those on Princess Place Drive and Wallace Drive.

The Wilmington Fire Chief has been pushing for this new location to help with response times and consolidate the city's stations.

Wow how will the traffic react to the Market Street and South Kerr avenue keep the intersection clear markers and the "Fire Trucks are coming" lights? Should be a field day for the ticket writers. And at 5pm Wilmington has one hemmed up Fire Station.
