WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –- Wilmington Police say a man is behind bars after he tried to drive away from officers Thursday afternoon.

According to a police spokesman, Ricky Wallace Jr. was wanted for armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery for allegedly stealing a purse from a woman July 16.

Just after 3:30 p.m. yesterday, officers say they tried to stop Wallace from driving out of The Pines apartment complex, when he backed up and hit two dumpsters. When police arrested him and searched the vehicle they found a .45 caliber pistol under his seat with the serial number scratched off. Wallace’s 4-year-old son was also in the car.

Wallace, 22, is in the New Hanover County Jail under $350,000 bond. The jail’s website says he is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, child abuse, possession of a fire arm with a the serial number removed, possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of probation violation, robbery with a dangerous weapon and speeding to elude arrest.
