KELLY, NC (WWAY) -- Investigators say an 84-year-old woman was found dead in her home just before noon yesterday.

Annie Anderson's granddaughter called police after she pulled up to her grandmother's home and saw broken glass outside the door.

Amber Jennings said she was planning on taking her grandmother out to eat for her birthday, and when she didn't show up, she knew something was wrong.

"I came to check on her to make sure she was OK, and I walked up, and that's when I discovered the broken door," Jennings said.

Jennings said she began walking all around the house on Morgan Road in Kelly yelling ad checking all the windows. After she didn't hear anything, she called 911.

She says she had her kids in the car, and she was scared to go inside the house, because of what she might find. Investigators told her not disturbing the crime scene was one of the best things she could have done.

"I have great confidence in the Pender County Sheriff's Office," Jennings said. "I feel like they will do all they can to catch whoever did this."

Investigators have not released the official cause of death, but her granddaughter believes Anderson was shot.

Murder of Mrs Annie Anderson

My family and I were Very close to Mrs Anderson. We were with the same church organizations for years until she left. In all the 14 years we knew her, she was Nothing but, Kind, Sweet, and EXTREMELY Friendly towards us and treated our daughter's as if they were her own grandchildren. I SINCERELY hope & pray justice is Swift and the Murderers are dealt with and prosecuted to the Fullest extent of the law. Which is mild considering how I would deal with them murdering and 84 y.o. widow!
