WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — City and county leaders are joining up again in an effort to boost business in the Cape Fear.

New Hanover County Commission and Wilmington City council met at the New Hanover County Executive Development Center Tuesday to discuss a handful of strategies they want to move forward with first.

This is a follow up meeting to discuss the strategies stem the 100-thousand-dollar garner report presented earlier this year.
The meeting broke down the 21 recommendations from the report.

They narrowed the list in an exercise where officials placed sticky notes next to items that could be barriers to business, the easiest, and items that were out of the sphere of our control.Mayor Bill Saffo says it’s important policy makers ask themselves questions to stay current.
“How do we stay in competition, how do we bring those companies here and how do we grow our economic tax base?” Saffo said.

“We’re not discounting any one of them, but at least we’ve prioritized what we think are the top and then really focused like a laser beam on getting those things done,” said mayor Bill Saffo.
One of the strategies highly discussed was the development of a tri-county micro marketing alliance, bringing New New Hanover, Pender, and Brunswick County together.

“I look at it as a synergy that we need to continue to forge,” Mayor Saffo said.

The items not discussed at this meeting will be continued in discussion to hopefully be completed over time.
They hope to present a timeline for the top items within the next 45 days.

$100,000 to a company that is out of state…and spent a few days here…to tell US what we’re doing wrong?!

Please explain why we have so many staff members on both the City and County level…and none of them are/were consulted for their advice?

Wait, white boards AND sticky notes??? They must really mean business! Maybe next time they spend $100k for someone else to do the homework we elect and pay them to do they’ll break out a power point presentation…

Absolutely ludacris that this is somehow a bragging point.
