West Columbus and East Columbus always play each other once a year in football. Sometimes, twice. The West Columbus had lost the last six meetings in this county rivalry, but not last Friday. The Vikings turned the table with an impressive 32 to 6 victory. "Our guys definitely came out and played," first year head coach Jason Jones told WWAY. "From the time we started with the program in May one of the things we concentrated on was the opening game, the opening game, the opening game. We're gonna come out and try some things that haven't been done here in a while."
The West Columbus defense nearly pitched a shutout. The running attack may have been even more impressive. "It was all about blocking," Rostin Bromell said. "I had to stay patient with the blocks. When I see the holes I had to just hit it, do what I had to do. It's always fun to be a running back."
Rostin Bromell scored twice. Teammate Fred Evans did the same. "We're the underdog, but don't underestimate us," Evans told WWAY. "It feels good to beat East Columbus. We did not give up. We did not hang our heads."
