Bonuses approved for Brunswick County School employees

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –- More bonuses are coming for employees of Brunswick County Schools.

According to a news release from Brunswick County Schools, the Brunswick County School Board approved its 2014-2015 budget Thursday.

The budget will include an increase in the local supplement schedule that will benefit all employees. Teachers will receive an additional $200 annually, assistant principals, principals, and central services administration will get $500 annually, and all classified employees receive an additional 1.5% of their annual salary.

School Finance Officer Freyja Cahill expressed gratitude to the Board for their review and revision to the supplement schedule and stated, "I am especially excited about the classified employee supplement increase because it has not changed in so many years."

I dont think that they should get travel pay that should be a part of there job, what happen to the old saying kids first now we know why they are trying to save money, maybe they should take a cut if they need to save money. sick and tried

Does anyone know the total pay out for bonuses' system wide?

Why does other personnel get

Why does other personnel get larger bonuses than the teachers?

For a change, it's nice to see you stick up for teachers instead of trashing them as over-paid, under "IQ'ed", whiners.

There is an injustice in

There is an injustice in this. This is indicative of what is wrong in the system. The answer isn't throwing more money at the problem. They need to cut the fat. When people at the central offices and the administrators are getting bigger raises than the teachers, then there is a problem.

Why the bonus? What have they done for the bonus. 45% of the county goes for education as it is.

45% because

How about the fact that they are the largest employer in the county? In other words, they employ more people than anyone other company in Brunswick. Hence, they get the biggest chunk of the pot. And as a teacher, I think it is great that classified positions got a bigger bonus. They barely got any raise from the state. And if we are going to compare the education system to corporate, most people get a review and raise once a year in the corporate world. I know I did when I was in the private sector. Teachers are reviewed on average three times a year, and haven't had a single raise in four years.

We haven't had a raise in a long time..

NC ranks towards the bottom at teacher pay...

no raise

In the real world (aka private enterprise) employees must earn a bonus. A bonus is a reward for exceptional performance. On the whole, I don't think this is true of the Brunswick County School System. I will agree that the major issues are at the central office and with the county school board.
