WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The last holiday weekend brought more traffic to the Port City.

AAA is predicting a busy weekend traffic wise. AAA said that just over a million North Carolina residents will travel 50 miles or more for Labor Day.

It looked like people were getting a head start Friday evening. Highway 421 was backed up all the way to 140 and 74/76 was backed up as well.

AAA said a recovering economy and lower gas prices are to blame for the boost to nationwide travel by 1.6% this weekend.

That's normal, everyday traffic at that bottleneck.

THANK YOU! Exactly! I saw that picture and thought "They're trying to make it seem like everyone is heading to Wilmington. 95% of that traffic is heading to Brunswick County. That's every day commuter traffic." Wilmington thinks they are the only destination spot for holidays. They couldn't be more wrong. I'm sure some of that traffic that wasn't commuter traffic was headed to Myrtle Beach.

Are all film tourists.
Beaches will be empty.......
Right?

Vog
(I know, I know.....)

. . . and hope they didn't hear the news of the poorly planned, next 2 - 4 years of nightmare road construction. And REALLY too bad for us locals who are facing daily nightmare commutes.
