Man sentenced to 35 years in federal prison after shootout and standoff

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Drugs, a stripper, a shooting and then a shootout with Wilmington police sends a man to prison for decades.

Investigators say on January 2, 2013, Jermaine Cordova hired a stripper to lure a man to her apartment. Cordova then ambushed the man and shot him. A few weeks later, Wilmington police pulled Cordova over. During the traffic stop, Cordova handed over marijuana and then shot at the cop, who shot back. Cordova then ran off, where he exchanged fire with another officer.

Afterwards, Cordova ran into a storage unit and was involved in a standoff for several hours with police. He eventually surrendered.

Today a judge sentenced the 38-year-old to 35 years behind bars.
