LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland town leaders have approved the only bid they received for repairs to the the newly-constructed town hall building. The town asked for bids from four contracting companies but only received one.
Thursday night, town council approved the bid.
“We’ll contact the architect (Friday), and get him rolling with this contractor and work out all the paperwork we need to so they can get to work as quickly as possible,” Town Manager David Hollis said. “With the amount of time it will take to repair the building due to the poor construction, we’re going to need to move forward as quickly as possible.”
The original contractor disagrees with the complaints and has told WWAY that the reason why town officials have not moved in is due to management issues, not what the town manager calls building defects.
The lone bid estimated the project at more than $457,000. Town leaders have said they only have $200,000 remaining from the original budget. The town says the new town hall building needs safety and sanitation repairs.
