Murder investigation underway in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County investigators are looking into a homicide in Cerro Gordo.

Investigators say on Monday at approximately 11:45 p.m., deputies with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office took a missing persons report at 848 Haynes Lennon Hwy. The report was filed by an occupant of the home.

Detectives searched the residence on Tuesday morning. While conducting a search, the man’s body was found in the residence.

An autopsy was conducted in Raleigh yesterday and the case has been ruled a homicide. The cause of death was from a gunshot wound.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

No arrests have been made and no additional information is being released at this time.

    Lots of dead people are probably all over the county. All the law dawgs are worried about are catching pill dealers who incidentally will get more time than the murderers. This one, the women in Bolton, and the dead man east of Whiteville remain unsolved. How interesting. Check your buildings, folks.
