COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A shooting suspect who was accidentally released from jail is back in custody.
According to the Columbus County Jail, Jasper Floyd was booked at 6:06 a.m.
Floyd is a suspect in a recent break-in and shooting, but was out of jail after a clerk court apparently made a mistake.
Assistant District Attorney Heath Nance said Floyd faced several charges in superior court that had him in jail under a $2.5 million bond. Meanwhile, he also faced charges in district court that were dismissed so they could be presented to a grand jury. Nance says a clerk apparently mistakenly dismissed all the charges against Floyd Monday, which led to him being released from the Columbus County Jail that night.
New warrants were issued for Floyd. The jail says he is in custody under a $2.5 million bond for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. A jail staffer says he is scheduled to be back in court Feb. 4.
