BB&T apologizes for problem that emptied customer accounts

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — BB&T Corp. is apologizing for a processing problem that caused some customer accounts to show incorrect balances or zero funds

The Winston-Salem-based bank posted an apology on its Facebook page Wednesday, adding that it fixed the problem, corrected account balances and refunded overdraft fees.

The Charlotte Observer reported bank spokesman Brian Davis said the problem impacted accounts over the weekend but that customers didn’t detect problems until Tuesday morning. Davis said the bank did not have a tally of how many customers were affected. He said the issue impacted BB&T’s customers across the U.S.

Davis said the problem was not the result of a cyberattack.
