NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — About 6 months ago, beach erosion threatened almost 40 homes on the north end of North Topsail Beach, but the town manager says after a record-fast emergency plan, those homes are now safe.
The board of alderman held multiple emergency meetings with the public and engineers to find the quickest solution.
Town Manager Stuart Turille says they pulled together a $2.6 million sandbag project from design, to permitting, to complete construction in just 6 months.
“I think that’s probably a record for any public works project of this emergency nature to protect these homes, to mitigate storm damage, and to protect the town infrastructure and the entire north end of town,” Truille
The town says these bags will stay here as long as they are needed, but they are just a temporary fix while the town finds a permanent solution.
