BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Court will not be in session in Brunswick County tomorrow. That’s because of water damage that started today forcing the courthouse to close early.
What started out as a small leak inside a sprinkler head turned into a big problem, which shut down the courthouse late this morning.
“That particular system turned into a gusher,” Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court Jim MacCallum said. “It began in one courtroom, and it has spread. Not throughout the courthouse, but into a number of the courtrooms.”
The water leak started in Courtroom 4 on the second floor and spread to numerous rooms on the first floor, including the largest courtroom in the building. Officials say there is significant damage inside to the ceiling, drywall and carpeting. No documents were lost, and all court appearances will be rescheduled.
Court officials say there is a large crew working on the problem, and they hope to have the building back up and running as soon as possible. For now, though, the courthouse will be closed Friday for anyone who had a case scheduled and jurors.
