NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Sheriff deputies were involved in a high-speed chase early Sunday morning.
Officials said a deputy saw a car pass him going approximately 90 miles per hour, in a 45 mph speed zone, while on Carolina Beach Road.
Officials say the deputy then chased him after trying to stop the suspect. The deputy found the vehicle near Burnett Boulevard crashed causing an excess of $1,000 of property damage.
The suspect then fled by foot, but the deputy chased and arrested him.
Demetrius Carlos,26, is charged with felony speed to elude arrest, hit and run, DWI, and resisting an officer.
Carlos is being held at the New Hanover County Jail under a 12,000 secured bond.
