WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — State regulators have fined an exterminator for the way he used pesticides in the Columbus County Jail and another violation.

According to a news release, the NC Structural Pest Control Committee, which is part of the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, reached a settlement with David M. Baker of Baker’s Bug Business in Fair Bluff.

According to the release, Baker agreed to pay $1,500 the violations, including applying pesticides at the Columbus County Detention Center while inmates were still in their cells. The label for Demand CS pesticide states not to apply in the immediate area when occupants are present, the committee said.

In a separate incident, Baker failed to make and maintain records for a termite treatment involving bait stations and annual inspections at a private home in Lake Waccamaw, the committee said.
