WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We are one week away from turkey day, so what better way to celebrate Throwback Thursday than by looking back at some Thanksgiving celebrations from the past.

In 1960, Gregory Elementary was a segregated school. The African American students there collected food items which were the distributed to those less fortunate in the Wilmington area to make everybody’s Thanksgiving special.

Food drives remain popular around the holidays, not only in the Cape fear region, but around the country.
