WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Things are looking up in downtown Wilmington. Thursday night downtown developers got together to give an update on some of the major projects hitting the downtown skyline. Six investors driving downtown development held a panel discussing the growth in the area and new trends.
Those in the construction business said they know downtown is seeing a lot of growth and that means a chance to build more retail, housing and office spaces.
The developers we spoke with said their northern riverfront projects like new apartments and restaurants are moving forward.
They said what’s driving that work is the fact that Wilmington is a good place to build.
Todd Saieed, the President and CEO of Dewitt Carolinas the group behind the Pier 33 apartment development, said Wilmington’s growth is one reason they wanted to build luxury apartments near the marina downtown.
“What we are finding is that job creation and household growth is ramping up in Wilmington and therefore there is a demand for a product like this,” said Saieed
USA Investco CEO Chuck Schoninger agrees downtown has a lot to offer to a developer.
“Great historic downtown which compliments what we think would be new construction, new buildings so we saw it as a real opportunity to take a big land position in Downtown Wilmington and help in the revitalization,” said Schoninger.
Wilmington Downtown Incorporated hosted the discussion.
