WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Bread and Lights Festival began Saturday at the Cameron Art Museum.

Several gingerbread houses are on display which represents the bread portion of the festival and artists-made lanterns represents the lights.

This is the first time the museum has held this type of festival.

Festival Coordinator Nan Pope said they only have 10 submissions last year, but had more than 30 this year.

“You see some very creative use of herbs,” said Pope. “It’s amazing what they choose to use to represent a construction material, but they have done very well with that everything from chewing gum to other candies.”

The top gingerbread houses and lanterns were chosen at a kickoff party Friday, but all submissions are on display through December 6.

Next Saturday you have breakfast with Santa & Mrs. Claus, but you must purchase tickets ahead of time.
