WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Friends and family gathered Sunday morning to say final goodbyes to Shane Simpson, who was killed December 20.

Simpson died following a gang-related drive-by shooting that injured four others on Castle Street. Simpson was 16 years old.

“He wasn’t supposed to be there and that wasn’t supposed to be him,” said Simpson’s godsister, Deja Murphy.

Murphy the violence happening in the community shouldn’t be happening.

“People that he grew up with killing him, people they grew up with killing each other,” said Murphy. “They just need to stop.”

Two other teens were arrested December 23 in connection with the shooting and Simpson’s murder.
