WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Yesterday, the national average for gas was $2 a gallon, the lowest on New Year’s Eve since 2008.

Experts predict that average will continue to fall. North Carolina’s average right now is $1.92. According to GasBuddy.com, these are some of the cheapest prices we’ve seen in the last decade. In January of 2008, gas was nearly $3 a gallon.

“It’s very good that the prices are down, especially this time of year,” said Chap Wallace who was getting gas in Wilmington. The AP reports drivers saved about $550 in 2015.

Experts expect North Carolina’s average price to drop to around $1.79 in the next month.
