WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man will spend up to 12 years in prison for robbing a store clerk at knife point last summer.

The District Attorney’s Office says Allan W. Anderson, 42, pleaded guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree
kidnapping today.

On June 25, 2015, Anderson approached the counter at the Scotchman at 5302 Carolina Beach Road to buy a beer. As the clerk began to check him out, Anderson pulled out a knife and forced her to open the register. He then directed the clerk to the safe, where he took more cash. Anderson also stole cartons of cigarettes and made the clerk go to the rear of the store before he left. Video surveillance that captured the incident was released via local media outlets, which led to tips from the community. Anderson eventually confessed to the crime, prosecutors say.

Anderson also pleaded guilty today to breaking and entering in an unrelated crime from May 2015.

A judge sentenced Anderson to between 110 and 144 months in prison
