WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW police are investigating an assault reported on-campus Thursday night.

Campus police said it happened around 9 p.m. in the H Lot near the water tower, which is at the corner of Racine Drive and Randall Parkway.

That’s where they said a 19-year-old female student reported she was attacked by three men wearing ski masks and dark clothing when she was walking to her car from the library.

“This was not a targeted attack and right now it’s very much an ongoing investigation and we’re asking our community’s help to identify the people that were involved,” said Major Chris Bertram with the UNCW Police.

Police said the attackers used a pipe, leaving the student with minor injuries.

Campus police said they increased patrols at UNCW, and are asking students to stay in well-lit areas, walk in pairs and be aware of your surroundings.

UNCW police ask anyone with information to call police at 962-2222 or use the tip line at 962-TIPS.
