WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Fire/Rescue presented a big check to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for $75,000 this afternoon.

They raised the money during the 2015 Fill the Boot campaign.

It will go to help with MDA research, support groups, medical equipment repairs, and even send kids to MDA summer camp.

Benjamin Bobzien, a New Hanover County Fire/Rescue Captain, said, “I’ll be honest, raising $75,000 was a huge undertaking on our part. As I said, the guys ran out there and filled the boot all day long for multiple days and they ran calls in the middle of it.”

Captain Bobzien said the relationship with the Muscular Dystrophy Association continues throughout the year, and they even plan to pay a visit this summer to the MDA camp in King, North Carolina.
