MOREHEAD CITY, NC (Star News)  — The head of the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries resigned Monday afternoon.

“Effective immediately, Louis Daniel is no longer director of the Division of Marine Fisheries,” agency spokeswoman Patricia Smith said Monday afternoon.

She would not elaborate on the conditions that led to the change or whether Daniel, who didn’t return a message late Monday afternoon, was involved in the decision.

In a Monday afternoon email to staff, John Evans, chief deputy secretary of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, notified the division of the change and Daniel’s temporary replacement.
