WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — MISSION BBQ is launching a national cup campaign to help support veterans across America.
The American Hero Cup will return to all MISSION BBQ locations this week. Four new cup designs will help support four charities.
MISSION BBQ is partnering with the USO in the majority of their locations. They support the Semper Fi Fund in Jacksonville, NC and Stafford, VA, the Navy Seal Foundation in Virginia Beach, VA and Special Operations Warrior Foundation in their Florida locations.
When customers buy a Black American Hero Cup for $3.99, $2 from the purchase will be donated to one of these Vital Veterans Charities.
MISSION BBQ first opened its doors on September 11, 2011, the tenth anniversary of the day that changed the world forever. Founders Bill Kraus and Steve Newton, two best friends hoped to open a restaurant with a MISSION to honor, support and give back to Our American Heroes, in Our Community and Our Country, who Protect, Serve and Save.
Each MISSION BBQ location supports and donates proceeds to local Police Fire and First Responder charities as well as military charities.
Wilmington MISSION BBQ Director of Operations John Turner said they will support the USO nine months out of the year. The other three months of donations will go to Wilmington’s local fire and police departments.
“We just think the USO is a great organization,” Turner said. “We are very passionate about military, police, and fire and the USO is one of the great charities that helps the military a whole lot. There mission is to take care of active duty, retired military and their families. They do a whole lot.”
Every day, at exactly 12 noon, the entire restaurant stands at attention to honor Our Country sing our National Anthem.
The cups will go on sale in Wilmington beginning Wednesday.
Turner said MISSION BBQ donated almost $500 million to the Wounded Warrior Project last year through the American Hero Cups.
