WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Special Olympics hosted their basketball skills day at UNCW today.

300 athletes practiced dribbling, shooting, passing and even played some 3 on 3 games.

The athletes train year-round in various sports to compete in the local, regional and state-level events. Athlete Saquoia Goodwin said the number one rule is to have fun.

“They have to have fun and really enjoy themselves because they know that it’s really awesome to be in here, and it’s fun to have fun and just work on the basketball skills because they know what they have.”

New Hanover County Special Olympics is gearing up for their annual spring games that will take place at the end of April.
