LELAND, NC (WWAY) — For members of Blackwell Chapel A.M.E Zion church, a day in September almost six years ago is a day they will never forget because it’s the day their building burned to the ground.

Members said they may have lost their building, but they didn’t lose their spirit. After years of fundraising and help from local churches, today they are finally celebrating  in a new church home. Reverend Felecia Jones said it still doesn’t seem real.

“I’m in the motion right now, they think it hasn’t hit me yet, but I’ve been praising God all the time because I believed God when he said he would do it,” Jones said.

Church members and visitors came together for a special dedication service Sunday.

The fire that destroyed the church was part of a string of suspicious fires.
