WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The man at the center of a shooting that temporarily placed a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Major on paid leave has died.
Bradley Barrett Lewis died on Friday.
On March 7, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office detectives were helping U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement search Lewis’s home in the 9000 block of Little River Road in Ash.
They were serving Lewis with a child pornography search warrant.
According to a news release, while officers attempted to take him into custody, he allegedly fired a shot from a gun. Investigators say at the same time, Major Laurie Watson drew her gun and also fired a shot.
Lewis was shot in the head and taken to Grand Strand Medical Center.
An investigation determined Lewis’s wound was not a result of Major Watson firing her weapon.
Additional information will be released by the SBI and District Attorney’s Office at the completion of their investigation.
