CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) —  It is the first day of spring and that means tourism season is right around the corner.

One new Carolina Beach business has just opened their doors hoping to offer tourists and locals a good time on Pleasure Island.

It’s the type of business that hasn’t been around since 2014.

Jim and Jennifer Kitts recently opened Poppy’s Palace Arcade. They have owned the building for a few years and before the arcade, it was a paint store. The process started last summer and they officially opened a few weekends ago.

“I’m just a big kid myself,” Jim said.

Jim said his earliest memories were with his grandfather “Poppy” taking him to play arcade games while on vaction in the Outer Banks.

“We just had a great time, and we had some great memories from that time, and now here we are,” Jim said. “We had this opportunity to try to create some of those same memories for the people who visit the island and for people who live right here.”

Jim says he hopes this is a place where kids can have a good time and where families not only take home prizes but also special memories.

The arcade is open now Thursday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. They plan to extend hours during the summer and be open year-round.
