20 endangered sea turtles released

READ MORE:
TOPSAIL BEACH -- Emaciated, sickly and near death -- that's how sea turtles arrive at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Hospital. They usually leave healthy and ready for a chance at a new life. Wednesday morning was a monumental day as 20 endangered sea turtles were released into the ocean. The sea turtle hospital nursed 13 of them back to health. The rest came from a marine center in Massachusetts, to be released in our warm water. One of the turtles, named Surf City, has a tracking device mounted on its shell. Sea turtle hospital volunteer Sandy Sly said, "Knowing where these turtles go, we've had assumptions. We thought they went here to Caribbean during winter months and they don't a lot stay here." The Town of Surf City paid to have the tracking device mounted to his shell. Beginning Thursday you can log on to www.seaturtle.org to track his progress.
