3 years of probation for NC woman in teen's death

READ MORE:
WENTWORTH -- A judge has sentenced a 60-year-old North Carolina woman to three years of probation for passing a stopped school bus and striking a 16-year-old boy, killing him. The News & Record of Greensboro reported Judy Stilwell pleaded guilty Tuesday in Rockingham County. Her six- to eight-month jail sentenced was suspended as long as she completes probation. Her driver's license was suspended for a year and she was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. Prosecutors say Stilwell had a clean record before passing the school bus which had its lights on and stop sign out on state Highway 770 and striking Nicholas Adkins as he crossed the street in January. Stilwell cried in court and her attorney called the incident a lapse in attention. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

Three years probation????

Three years probation, $1000.00 fine? Are they crazy? A young man was KILLED!!!!! I just can't believe what I'm reading! A lapse in attention? She should be locked up and the DOC should have a lapse in attention when she wants to get out of jail. This is appalling? What did the judge say to the family when he slapped this woman on the wrist? Sorry, your son is dead but she wasn't paying attention when she was DRIVING! Unbelievable!!!

Lapse of Attention?

Just when you think you have heard it all!!!!!! A young man is dead, his family is shattered, and she blames it on a lapse of attention? Please! Where is the justice here? She broke the law and destroyed a family forever! If her attention was so distracted that she couldn't see a great big yellow bus with the sign out, this lady does not need to be driving again.

Death of 16 Yr. old

This "lapse in attention" cost a young boy his life and all she gets is 3 yrs. probation and a $1,000 fine????? Her license is only suspended for 1 yr! She should never be allowed to drive again since she can't pay attention! Where is the justice here? My heart goes out to the 16 yr. old's family. They will never have the joy of watching their son grow and prosper.
