The streets of downtown Wilmington were packed Saturday morning for the 62nd Azalea Parade. For those that were out enjoying the perfect weather, the parade didn’t disappoint. With bands, elephants, and clowns, the parade continues to grow. Saturday's parade went on for more than three hours. If you missed any of it or just want to watch it again, you can buy DVD copies here.

Speaking of dogs...where was the Mayor!?!?!?!

So there were alot of people that put in many hours of hard work so that Wilmington could have a great Azalea Fest..... But I have one question, with so many people putting in all this time and energy to pull it together where the heck was the Mayor!? If you saw the parade line-up he was scheduled to be there, and he did not show! He just plain and simple did not think he had to call any of the people planning the parade, to tell them that he was not going to make it. He just simply did not show up to participate in this town biggest event! The rumor around the parade area was that his neighbor was called to try to track him down and this person stated that he thought the mayor was golfing!!!

Who cares what Slacko is out doing as long as he is doing it away from the office where he can't cause anymore harm to the city.

Dogs at the festival

Let me preface his comment by saying that I do not care for dogs, want a dog or like being around dogs...Not a dog person. So, I may be a little biased, but what is with all the dogs at the festival when it is illegal for them to be there? Why are the police not, at least, asking the people to get the dogs out of there? It is a city code violation, and yet I saw dogs everywhere within the festival boundaries walking right by the police and nothing!!!! Are the police sidetracked by the fact they are walking a beat in the festival and not out writing a speeding ticket or a rolling stop ticket to some motorist? Just curious.

I'm sorry that you are not a dog lover or even a dog liker. I don't think this has anything to do with liking dogs or not, and everything to do with being able to walk down a city street. There are several dog friendly stores in downtown wilmington that I enjoy going to, and I was a little angry that I could not enjoy both the festival and my favorite shops on what was a beautiful day. Now, also let me say that my dogs are both very small and I could have tucked them away in a bag so that no one would know, but I didn't do that. I did have them in their wagon where they could be pulled and not walked. I guess the concern is that there will be a huge mess, and someone could get bitten. In a way I can understand, and in another I just can't understand how the city can say that dogs are not allowed on a PUBLIC city street. I was stopped by the police from walking my dogs at the festival, so I know they were out there doing their jobs. Heck, they don't even allow you to bring your pet to the "pet expo"! I can see not allowing them in the food area's, and I can see asking a person to leave if their pet is not well behaved or they haven't cleaned up after their pet. However, as an american I should be allowed to walk down a city street with my well behaved, leashed pet, during a festival that not only has vendors selling pet items, but have pet adoptions taking place. As for the stores that are pet friendly downtown, you should speak up! You will continue to lose clients because it's like on these festivals our money isn't good enough!

This was the best Festival I have ever seen. The layout was great and it was not too cramped like in past years. Bravo! BUT... Two Boo's Hiss to The George... I stood in line for 20 minutes, (With half the tables empty!), with a sleeping baby, only to be told when they called my name that they were only serving Salads and soup between 4 and 5 pm. No wonder all the people in front of me got upset and left. I only found out after they called my name. You figure, in this economy, they would want business. Maybe they should have taken two of their hostesses and made them servers for the day. It wasn't that much better at Elijah's. They had 60% of their tables open and still a 50 minute wait. I give both places Two Boo's and a Hiss!
