HICKORY, N.C. (AP) -- A 23-year-old man picked the wrong elderly couple to rob in Hickory.
Derek Scott Frenceschini of Hickory was arrested after he was shot and wounded during a holdup.
Police say 79-year-old former Army sharpshooter Dwight Cook fired a warning shot at the intruder that ricocheted and hit him in the forehead.
Cook held the man at gunpoint until police arrived.
Frenceschini was hospitalized for a bullet fragment in his skull and a fractured hand he hurt in the break-in.
