8th-grader questions Edwards on Iraq

HANOVER, N.H. (AP) -- An eighth-grade student in New Hampshire picked up today where Tim Russert left off last night, asking Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards about Iraq.

The exchange came at Richmond Middle School hours after a Democratic debate across town at Dartmouth College. The former North Carolina senator and rivals Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama told Russert they could not guarantee that U.S. troops would be out of Iraq by the end of the next president's term in 2013.

Eighth-grader James Harvard pointed out several other Democratic candidates made that guarantee last night.

Edwards told Harvard he would have combat troops out of Iraq in nine months.

Edwards got two standing ovations and enthusiastic responses to his answers at the school.

Worried Republicans

Are you guys worried? Atleast with a new President ( Female ) our troops will come home. The sooner the better.

I'd say that you're kind of sexist....

...are you suggesting that females are spineless pansies who will back down out of fear of Muslims? Naaaaah! Look at Maggie Thatcher. She showed the Argies what for. In all seriousness, I believe the female you allude to will be smart enough to realize that forward deployment has been a cornerstone of our defense policy since 1945. It's always better to fight OVER THERE than here at home. Keeping American troops in Europe and the Far East was instrumental in winning the Cold War. An American presence in Iraq and Afghanistan will certainly assist in containing Iran from any hopes of regional domination. Unfortunately, I have no such hope that she will be sharp enough to avoid screwing up the American healthcare system to the point of being irrevocably broken.

Well, at least....

.....Edwards and the eighth grader are on the same level. To bad that they won't be able to vote until 2012. But then again, I'm sure Johhnie won't go away and he will be back to haunt us then.

So which is it?????

Last night he couldn't promise they'd be out by 2013, but today he'll "..have them out in nine months?" I'm beginning to think that this guy is a raving lunatic, just babbling on and on.

In the same class

I guess because they are in the same grade. Sorry, didn't mean to insult the children to put edwards on their level.
