The Wilmington Swim League is comprised of 10 teams. Pine Valley has the strongest squad. Cape Fear Country Club is close behind. David Kaufman is president of the Wilmington Swim League. He's been involved with the league for 19 years. Kaufman told WWAY "We've come a long way. We used to try to do this in one day when we had 600 to 700 swimmers. It would basically be a one day marathon. Now it's a 3 day marathon with 956 swimmers competing this year."
Maggie Bellamy never misses a meet. She's been the head coach for the Cape Fear Country Club swim team for 29 years. She told us she loves coming to the pool every day. " Teaching swimming and coaching swimming is really one of the most rewarding coaching experiences you can have."
