Skyway, other turnpike projects removed from NC House bill

Three contentious turnpike projects are no longer included in Gov. Pat McCrory's transportation overhaul.
The House Appropriations Committee adopted a new version of the bill Tuesday that removed the Cape Fear Skyway, the Garden Parkway and the Mid-Currituck Bridge from the plan.

A Bladen County man is in jail charged with raping a child.
The Sheriff's Office charged John Owens Jacobs, 42, of Bladenboro, yesterday with two counts of first degree rape of a child under the age of 13 and one count of first degree sex offense of a child.

Police are investigating a shooting.
Dispatch says a man was shot in the arm and has been taken to the hospital.
Police responded to the area of 10th and Queen streets around 8:30 tonight. The call to police came in around 9:20.
