Our corner of the world is the setting for many of best-selling author Nicholas Sparks' romance novels. His newest book-turned-movie 'The Lucky One' hit theaters Friday, and Sparks held a special screening of the film in his hometown of New Bern.

video On Friday night's WWAY sports we featured the first day of the Azalea Open Skeet Shooting Tournament in Brunswick. Two world champions are competing in the event. We also featured three high school baseball games: Whiteville vs. North Brunswick, New Hanover vs. New Bern and Ashley vs. Rose. On top of that we had the latest info on UNCW sports.

FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Three suspended Leland cops fired, another resigns

All five officers suspended last week are now gone from the Leland Police Department. The town fired three of the officers today, and one more quit. A fifth officer quit earlier this week.

Return of bridge painting means return of delays, closures

Lane closures and traffic delays are back as paint crews continue working on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge. Work today caused major traffic, and that might be something you have to get used to.
