Developers working on private financing for ballpark; taxpayer share unclear

video Securing financing for a proposed baseball stadium will no longer fall on Wilmington's shoulders. Today, the Atlanta Braves and Mandalay Baseball Properties announced the ballpark would be financed and constructed privately. Even so, it will still require an uncertain amount of taxpayer dollars.

Commission candidates debate hot button issues at UNCW

video As November nears, candidates for elected office are trying to make their voices and viewpoints heard. A debate forum was held Wednesday night at UNCW that helped candidates in New Hanover County do just that. Three Democrats and six Republican candidates for the New Hanover County Commission each answered a variety of questions on different topics.

Reaction varies to ballpark financing plan

Speculation abounds as Wilmington gets ready for 'Iron Man 3'

video There's a lot of buzz in the entertainment world about "Iron Man." Robert Downey Jr. stars as the super hero in "The Avengers," which opens next month. Meanwhile, the Port City is getting ready for "Iron Man 3," one of the biggest motion pictures in North Carolina history, to start shooting this spring.

Serial bank robber gets federal prison sentence

A judge today sentenced Jonathan Lee Thompson, 52, to ten years and five months in prison followed by three years supervised release. Thompson must also pay more than $8,000 in restitution. Thompson was on supervised release after serving time for nine bank robberies when he robbed three Wilmington banks in 2009.
