Hundreds of people gathered in Brunswick County to show their appreciation to those who made the ultimate sacrifice six years ago today.
A group called the Fire Department of New York-Carolina retirees association started a four-hour motorcade in 2002.

With Wilmington under a stage-one water conservation alert, the city is doing its part by recycling water.
Pumps are draining the city's public pools and using the water for irrigation. The pool water is being routed to nearby sprinklers to water the grass in the parks surrounding the pools.

Thousands of people in New York are remembering victims in a park just south of what was once the World Trade Center. Authorities moved the ceremony off the original site this year because of construction work in the pit where four towers will eventually replace the World Trade Center.

One of the oldest civil rights organizations, the NAACP, just announced it's 64th annual North Carolina State Conference will take place right here in Wilmington.
The president of the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP made the announcement Monday.

A close call for one Wrightsville Beach boater this afternoon: around two o'clock a sailboat traveling south on the Intracoastal Waterway had its mast caught in the Causeway Bridge while it was closing.

Police are investigating two fatal accidents in Wilmington over the weekend. One happened Saturday night near the intersection of Martin Luther King Parkway and Kerr Avenue. Police say the driver of a Lincoln Navigator drove off the side of the road and flipped.

Around here there were predictions that Gabrielle would bring heavy rain, high winds and strong rip currents.
But surfers in Wrightsville Beach didn't see any of that. Surfers expecting to see big waves were hit with a wave of disappointment when they saw the surf Sunday afternoon.
