It's been six years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks but for some people it seems like yesterday. Gwen Loiacono had a dream the day after the terrorist attacks and within months turned that dream into a reality. She's now helping to comfort thousands of people.

Police are investigating two fatal accidents in Wilmington over the weekend. One happened Saturday night near the intersection of Martin Luther King Parkway and Kerr Avenue. Police say the driver of a Lincoln Navigator drove off the side of the road and flipped.

Around here there were predictions that Gabrielle would bring heavy rain, high winds and strong rip currents.
But surfers in Wrightsville Beach didn't see any of that. Surfers expecting to see big waves were hit with a wave of disappointment when they saw the surf Sunday afternoon.

Ferry service has resumed to Ocracoke Island as remnants of Tropical Storm Gabrielle moved away from North Carolina. Ferry service was suspended yesterday because of the storm, which brought 50 miles per hour winds and up to eight inches of rain to the Outer Banks.

The closing of a popular boxing program has some Wilmington residents concerned. It's been a part of the community for decades. After more than 30 years, the city ended the Sherridale Morgan competitive boxing program. Some people who live near the Tenth Street gym said the program will be missed.

The latest nuclear submarine in the United States Navy has a special connection with Wilmington. The commander of the USS North Carolina was in town Friday morning to unveil plans to bring the sub to the Port City.

If you're planning on taking the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge next week plan for detours.
The bridge will close overnight from ten p.m. to six a.m. Monday through Friday. Workers will be changing the old electrical control system.

While this storm is still churning in the Atlantic it's a good time to talk emergency planning. That includes having a plan ready for your pet. New Hanover County has a third shelter ready for pets in the event of an evacuation. And unlike the other shelters, this one will house both pets and their owners.

Last month Spiro's Breakfast and Lunch Wn wilmington scored a 72.5. Two week's later, another chance, but many similar problems, including foods at the wrong temperature, food stored the wrong way and cleaning needed. A 13-point improvement. But the 85.5 means Spiro's is still a Kitchen Cops low performer.
