Wilmington City Councilwoman Laura Padgett says the city's travel policy needs to be amended. At the council meeting Tuesday night, Padgett proposed changing the policy by stating any reimbursement request that doesn't meet the travel policy to not be paid, which can then be appealed by the individual. She also proposed requiring members to request in person the use of additional money known as pool money to cover any extra expenses. Full story...

It took more than two hours for students and staff at UNCW to find out about a shooting near campus Friday. The university has acknowledged that its response to the gunman and a search for him on and around campus was unacceptable. Topsail Beach has been busy this summer, and not just with tourists. Sea turtles have been making their way to the beach to lay their eggs, but now the are facing some hardships. Back in 2007 Brunswick County Sheriff's deputies shot a man, who was also charged with two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer. George Cooper says he never pointed a gun at the officers much less fired it, and today a jury at the Brunswick County Courthouse agreed with him. Full story...
