The US Coast Guard celebrated a milestone this weekend. It was the organization's 217th birthday. Back on August 4, 1790 Congress authorized the construction of ten vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling and protect the collection of the federal revenue.

A 16-year-old Castle Hayne boy is facing armed robbery charges after allegedly robbing three people at gunpoint. Investigators say the incidents happened Saturday night around 11 o'clock in downtown Wilmington.

» Sewer repair project continues

The sewer repair project in the Bradley Creek section of New Hanover county resumed Monday.
The work had been suspended because of three spills in the area.
Crews caused the spills while trying to repair the pipe that runs through the Wrightsville Green community off of Greenville Loop Road. But repair crews have been cleared to resume pumping sewage through bypass lines while they insert a new liner into the old pipe.

Police also say David Lloyd gave officers a fake name when they arrested him. Investigators say he attacked a 33-year-old New York woman July 26 near the north end pier. She managed to break free and called 911.
