New Hanover's improved fire district ratings mean savings for residents

video If you live within the New Hanover County Fire District, you may be eligible for a discount on your insurance on July 1 thanks to the improved fire district ratings. Residents say they are excited about the savings. They think it will be good for the area's growth.

Police make arrest in February double shooting

Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to the shooting of two people last month. Police arrested Michael Gerrod Jones last night. He is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and other gun charges.

John Edwards campaign must repay $2M to Treasury

The Federal Election Commission is upholding a ruling that requires the campaign of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards to repay the US Treasury more than $2.1 million in public matching funds.

Hogg named interim boss in Oak Island

The Town of Oak Island has temporarily filled its open town manager position. The town says it hired Tom Hogg of Garner yesterday to serve as interim town manager while the Town Council looks for a permanent replacement.

Appalachian State edges UNCW in Women's NIT

video Appalachian State defeated UNC Wilmington in the first round of the WNIT on Thursday night at Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks conclude their season with a 20-13 record. ASU will not face NC State in the second round of the WNIT in Raleigh on Saturday.

Protest held in response to commissioners turning down family planning funds

video Just days after New Hanover County Commissioners voted against state funding for contraceptives, the response has been incredible. A few hundred people came to Riverfront Park in downtown Wilmington Thursday in protest of the vote.
